DIPLAB stands for DIsaster Planning LABoratory and is intended to contribute to the prediction, prevention, and risk assessment of natural disasters such as slope instabilities, and to study the interaction of man made structures with the ground… through a multidisciplinary approach involving Geomathics, Engineering Geology, and Geotechnical Engineering.
DIPLAB GEOMECCANICA is the Geomechanics Laboratory which is operating in the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering. Based on funds provided by Politecnico di Torino, the Fondazione San Paolo, and the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering the laboratory was set-up in 2005 by merging the Soil Mechanics and the Rock Mechanics laboratories previously active in the same department.
The laboratory shows a collection of standard and originally developed equipment devoted to geomaterial characterization and modelling, always in the perspective of solving engineering problems.
The main activities of DIPLAB GEOMECCANICA are:
the development of numerical models for real time simulation, analysis and interpretation in GIS environment of slope instabilities, with attention on deep landslides, subject to traditional monitoring and measurement of significant geomathic, hydrogeological and geomechanical parameters.
