Iacmag 2020 will be held in Torino

Wuhan (China). Yesterday, during the closing ceremony of the 15th Iacmag (International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics) conference, Marco Barla had the honor to present the next conference venue for 2020: Torino. The Iacmag Board has taken this decision after having evaluated two outstanding concurring proposals. The competitor being the Graz University of Technology. The winning candidacy was presented by Barla on behalf of three academic bodies: Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano and Université Grenoble Alpes. Also present on site: Alessandra Insana (PoliTo) and Donatella Sterpi (PoliMi). Cooperation among these three institutes, located in the same area of Europe across the Western Alps, allowed to build a strong proposal and will be the key of success for the future initiative. If the main set of the conference will be Torino, Milano and Grenoble will actively contribute to the organization and it is expected that they can host short courses and technical visits. This appointment is a even greater responsibility as the conference is coming back to Europe (and Italy) after 15 years and a series of successful conferences around the world (India, Australia, Japan, China). Time to say: Iacmag, welcome back!
